Risk management of global climate change in the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to highlight the interplay of climate change and agro-industrial production and its consequences for food security, to reveal possible strategies for managing the risk of weather anomalies, to propose an algorithm for developing policies to adapt to the climate crisis.

Research methods. In the research process, a set of general scientific methods of empirical research in combination with general logical methods was used. Monographic - used in the development of domestic and foreign publications on this issue. A systematic approach (system analysis and synthesis) - to identify the mutual dependence and impact of climate change on agricultural production and food security. The idealization method is used to comprehend the possible components of the risk management strategy for climate anomalies. Abstract-logical - to identify key measures for adapting agriculture to the climate crisis and mitigate its effect on the concentration of greenhouse gases.

Research results. The influence of Ukraine’s agriculture on the volume of anthropogenic emissions is analyzed, the actual consequences of climate change for agricultural production are systematized, the imperatives of the risk management strategy for abnormal weather events are identified, which, in addition to increasing productivity and profitability, provide for adaptation and increase of resistance to climate changes, as well as mitigation of their impact through the reduction or cessation of harmful emissions, the procedure for formulating adaptation policies is recommended.

Scientific novelty. Taking into account the socio-economic state of the agricultural production sphere, methodological approaches to determining the adaptation strategy and managing climate change risks were further developed.

Practical significance. The results of the study can be used by agricultural producers and local government leaders to assess the causes and consequences of global warming and extreme weather events, as well as to formulate a adaptation policy to them.
