The purpose of the article is to reveal the social peculiarity of the role of a rural woman in family in terms of the transformation processes that take place in public life.

Research methods. The methods of generalization gave an analysis of the natural life of mankind, based on a set of social norms and various physiological problems, in particular, characterizing a peculiar micro-world of the life of peasants. Economic and statistical information on problems that are combined with the peculiarities of women's role, formation and development of family relationships was used. Particular attention was paid to characterizing family as a small social group in society.

Research results. The essence of the role of a woman living in the countryside, her original active position, her role in the family and society were determined. The current problems in the countryside, working conditions and way of life of peasants, which are the first signs in the formation of family and norm of its existence, were highlighted. The transformation of women's views on the lifeworld was analysed, taking into account problems at the present time, that is, adapting to the new conditions of modern life in the market world.

Elements of scientific novelty. The role of a rural woman in her orientation to her own work, her desire to be a homemaker in order to raise the standard of living of family, as the social role of women in the foreground was emphasized in context of the rural economic crisis. Rural woman seeks to build a normal family with her positive microclimate and to fulfil her natural function, namely to give birth, to raise decent children, and be a successor.

Practical significance. The emphasis was placed on a family as a separate institution, which should be a transformer of social norms and human behaviour in the society that shapes family members' views on the future life. The responsible and most active role was given to a woman living in rural areas.
