Competitiveness and positioning of Ukraine on the world market of dairy products

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to determine a competitiveness level of the economic activity “Production of dairy products”, evaluate Ukraine’s positions on the world market of dairy products and determine their enhancing directions. Research methods. In order to calculate an integrated competitiveness index level and determine the dynamics of dairy products export and Ukraine’s positions on the world market of dairy products, were used such economic and statistical methods as comparative analysis, average and relative variables, statistical groupings, trend analysis, graphic method, index, coefficient analysis, etc. The abstract-logical method and the method of generalization techniques were used to develop measures for the dairy production competitiveness enhancing. Research results. The integrated competitiveness index of Ukraine’s dairy production for the period between 2014 and 2016 was calculated. It was determined that the industry’s positive dynamics was determined by indicators of economic development, business activity in the industry, efficiency of sales management and goods promotion on the market. Downward factors for Ukrainian dairy production were a low rate of participation in foreign economic markets and unprofitability in the industry. Ukraine’s share in the world market of dairy products remains insignificant and in its main segments does not exceed 0.06-0.52%. This situation is a result of systemic problems in the industry. Elements of scientific novelty. Complex of measures of the dairy production competitiveness enhancing in Ukraine at the state and production management levels was defined. Directions for Ukraine’s position strengthening on the world market of dairy products were determined. Practical significance. Identification of systemic problems in development of the dairy products industry, measures of enhancing Ukrainian dairy production competitiveness and directions for strengthening Ukraine’s positions on the world dairy market will allow to develop key priorities for formation of effective policy for increasing competitiveness of Ukrainian dairy products on world market.
